Central park. New york would be inconceivable without this 843 acre expanse of green delight. Pack a picnic (see shopping/soho 2/dean & deluca) and head to sheep meadow in summer, a lovely expanse of lawn that offers terrific eye candy. For the best people watching in town, you can't beat the retro spectacle of the roller disco.
Free performances of shakespeare in the park or summerstage; hire a row boat on the lake, and grab a cocktail after at the boathouse; or just stroll around the reservoir for splendiforous midtown views

Pylon it on brooklyn bridge. Begin at park row and centre st. (at city hall). The walk is about 45 mins each way. Plaques en route give historical info on the 1883 bridge and the city. When you reach brooklyn side, take the first exit left and down the stairs to cadman plaza e., head down to cobbled washington st. And wander on until you reach brooklyn bridge park. Stop for photos or go left and left again, then right into water st. If it's cold, grab a sinful hot choc at jacques torres at #66, or if it's warm, continue until you reach the brooklyn ice cream factory for a lick with views. The river cafe is also here, also with stagger manhattan vistas. Both are likely to have bus groups. Skip up old fulton st., on your left is yummy pizza at grimaldi's. Now, you can peel off right up columbia heights and explore picturesque brooklyn heights and its waterfront promenade, or skip left down front st. All the way to washington st., take a right and make your way back to the bridge for the return hike.
